High Court Upholds Planning Decision

The High Court has vindicated Oadby and Wigston Borough Council’s decision to grant planning permission for a conference centre and student facilities in Oadby.

The Court’s decision on 21st  January 2011 was in response to a challenge by the Meadowcourt and Oadby Hilltop Residents’ Association. The Judge, Mr Justice Foskett, dismissed charges that the Council’s Planning Committee and officers made 9 separate errors of law when granting the University of Leicester planning permission for the scheme at Gilbert Murray Hall, Manor Road. The Association was also ordered to pay the Council’s legal costs.

Local Focus Team member Naveed Alam said, “This was a contentious application but it was considered properly and fairly. Every planning application must and is always determined on its own merits.

“I would reassure local residents that although this particular permission was upheld by the Court, this does not mean there is a green light for further development in this sensitive part of the Borough”.
