Recycling Cooking Oil

Cooking OilsLiberal Democrats Councillors have now made it possible to recycle cooking oil.

£10 million is wasted each year cleaning out sewers clogged with fat. These can include the pipes residents are responsible for their own property, leading to blockages and flooding.

The scheme collects any unwanted cooking oil and fats from deep fat fryers, grills, frying pans and baking trays (but NOT engine oil).

The waste oil is turned into an environmentally friendly bio-fuel. This both helps to keep your council tax low and protect the environment.

Please refer to your Refuse and Recycling guide, visit Oadby & Wigston Council’s waste collection page on their web site or ring the Council on 0116 2888961 for more details. There is also a Cooking Oil Collection leaflet from the council.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Christmas TreeRemember that Christmas cards and wrapping paper can be recycled in your brown recycling bag.

There are two ways to dispose of real Christmas trees. The County Council’s Recycling and Household Waste site on Wigston Road in Oadby accepts trees for composting.

Alternatively trees up to four foot (1.2m) long can be placed by your green compost bag on day of your garden waste collection. Trees over four feet will need to be cut in half.  Check the Garden Waste Collection page on Oadby and Wigston Borough Council’s web site for details about collection days and compost bags.
